Your Songwriting Guide

April Keezing is a multi-talented musician and songwriting educator with over 15 years of teaching experience. She holds a B.M. in Professional Music and an M.M. in Songwriting from Berklee College of Music. April believes that art is for everyone, and she works hard to make the craft of songwriting accessible to all. This is why she has dedicated her life to creating easy-to-use songwriting resources, including tutorials, walkthroughs of her songwriting process, and online courses across a variety of digital platforms. The aim of these resources is to create more accessibility in the arts and to make the process of songwriting fun and emotionally honest for aspiring and experienced songwriters alike.

Musician

April writes and produces indie pop music under the name, April Keez. Her original song, "Boston in the Rain" was a finalist in the 2022 Songdoor International Songwriting Contest. Her 2021 album, Mountainview, explores the themes of growing up, escapism, and learning to accept the uncontrollable. She is drawn toward unusual harmony and vivid imagery, and often includes experimental elements like prepared piano, polyrhythms, and chromaticism, while contrasting playfulness and emotional rawness.

Author

A recipient of the Maine Arts Commission's competitive Artist Project Grant, April writes instructional guides to creating and understanding music. She is currently writing her second book, The Treble Tree: How to Read Music When It Seems Impossible.
